A Study on the degree of knowledge and practice about control of Tuberculosis



Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find out degree of knowledge_ and practice about Tuberculosis(Tbc) control, and health educational needs of the Tbc patients. Data were collected by interview from 221 patients of Tbc clinics of a health center and a hospital in K city during Sept. 1st-Nov. 30th, 1985. The results were as follows:
1. The data shows that following groups of 50~59 years in age, males singles and having high school educational backgrounds revealed higher scores of knowledge and practice. Five to nine years¢¥ duration of illness showed higher but insignificant scores in knowledge, but it showed significantly higher scores in practice (F = 5. 805, P<0.01): Those who had once discontinued treatment and those who had been educated about Tbc showed higher but insignificant scores.
2. The degree of knowledge were significantly correlated with the degree of practice about Tbc(r=.3653, P<0.001).
3. Those who had educational experience about Tbc were only 26.2%, and the majority(61.5%) were uneducated but they wanted to have education about Tbc treatment, management, drugs, prognosis, prevention, causes; communicability and isolation, diets and symptoms and signs of Tbc, the list of which is in order of frequency.
